Design Guidelines
Follow these to ensure your parts can be manufactured without issues.
Minimum feature size
Holes and slots must be at least equal to material thickness. Smaller features may not cut cleanly.
Closed contours
All cutting paths must be closed. Open paths are ignored. Verify your DXF has no gaps at endpoints.
File units
Always draw in millimetres. Files in inches result in incorrect pricing.
Kerf allowance
Laser kerf ~0.2–0.3 mm. For precision fits offset your geometry accordingly.
Layers & colours
Put cut lines on a separate layer. Label clearly — e.g. "CUT" and "ENGRAVE".
Sharp corners
Internal corners have a small radius from the laser beam. Add corner relief cuts for tight fits.
Dimensional tolerances
| Parameter | Standard | Achievable | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cut tolerance | ± 0.2 mm | ± 0.1 mm | Material dependent |
| Minimum hole Ø | = thickness | 0.5 mm | Thin stainless only |
| Minimum slot width | = thickness | = thickness | Structural limit |
| Edge roughness Ra | < 3.2 µm | < 1.6 µm | Nitrogen cut |
| Flatness deviation | < 0.5 mm/m | < 0.2 mm/m | Thin sheet may warp |
| Minimum bridge | 2× thickness | 1× thickness | Risk of deformation |
